Good News: Kids’ Oral Health on the Rise
Posted on 2/1/2013 by Jessica Edgerton
According to a new Columbia University study, the oral health of children across the U.S. has improved since 2003 and preventative visits are on the rise. DailyRX reports the following findings:

67.7 percent of parents reported that their children had “excellent” or “very good” oral health in 2003, a number that increased to 71.9 percent in 2011/2012.
The rate of children who were reported to have excellent or very good oral health increased in 26 states.
The rate of parents who reported that their children went to at least one preventive dental visit increased from 71.5 percent in 2003 to 77.0 percent in 2011/2012.
The prevalence of children who went to a preventive care dental visit increased in all but six US states.

The data in the study underscores the importance of addressing oral health problems early and getting kids to the dentist every six months from the time they are 12 months old.
