Give Kids a Smile Day at Alameda Pediatric Dentistry

In celebration of National Children’s Dental Health Month, Alameda Pediatric Dentistry participated in the annual Give Kids a Smile event, a national initiative created in 2003 by the American Dental Association to promote pediatric oral health in underserved communities.
On Saturday, February 9, the pediatric dentists, orthodontists, and staff at Alameda Pediatric Dentistry graciously opened their doors to provide free oral health care services and education to children from low-income families in the Alameda County area. This year, 35 children received dental screenings, fillings, extractions, fluoride varnish applications, and oral health education.
“We have such a wonderful, caring team at Alameda Pediatric Dentistry. The energy and enthusiasm at 7:30 in the morning was incredible because we all really enjoy this event,” explains Dr. Mylinh Ngo, pediatric dentist at Alameda Pediatric Dentistry.
While parents and children were waiting their turn to be treated, the staff presented Tooth Fairy Island, a fun, hands-on presentation using coloring books and games to teach children the importance of oral health care and show them how easy it is to take care of teeth at home.
“Each year we look forward to Give Kids a Smile Day because we’re helping to fill a critical need in our community, showing that we truly care about the oral health of children, and educating kids and their families on the importance of oral health care at a young age,” explains Dr. Ngo.
